Welcome back letter from Superintendent Susan Jones Mueller
Dear Catholic School Students, Parents and Educators,
Welcome back! Hopefully you found moments to gather your thoughts and ideas over the summer and also relax and enjoy time with your family and friends.
For many of you this is a year of new beginnings! Some are in a new school – either as students, faculty or staff, while others are moving up a grade or learning new things. While becoming a senior might be easier than becoming a freshman, both hold new challenges. Moving to new schools requires being able to adjust and make new friends and it is not always easy whether you are a student, teacher or principal. I know however that everyone will be welcomed with open hearts in each of our schools.
Many of our educators took time during their summer vacation to participate in the Digital Summer Learning Institute at Pensacola Catholic High School or the Notre Dame Initiative held at the end of July, or other workshops and courses throughout the state. I appreciate the dedication everyone has shown to Catholic schools and recognize the fact that our educators are continuously improving on the many talents they bring with them. Students are better served when educators are role models of learning.
Somewhere embedded in every school mission statement it states that our students should make a difference in the world they live in. We expect quite a bit from them, but we should always remember that we cannot expect any less from ourselves. Catholic Social Teachings remind us that, “We believe people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all…” and that, “a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met.” We share our lives in our school community. Everything we do affects others in some way whether in our families, the classroom or on the football field.
I hope you all marvel at the new things going on in our schools this year and help each other in any way possible. We are a community of diverse individuals and groups that together form (a part of) the Body of Christ.
I would like to thank everyone - students, parents, educators and pastors again for investing your time, talent and treasure in Catholic Schools.
With many blessings,
Susan Jones Mueller
